Falmouth bicycle committee votes on EMF safety letter for Shining Sea Bike Path as maintenance needs mount. Chair Katherine Jansen reported that the path in North Falmouth has seen approximately three accidents per week near Daily Brew, including a recent incident in which an elderly resident broke their hip. The committee voted 5 to 1 with 1 abstention to request that the Selectboard ask Eversource to write a letter assuring that electromagnetic fields from power cables under the path pose no health threat to users, a proposal from member Timothy Shea.

A recent estimate for repairing 0.7 miles of the path reached 147,000 dollars; the committee awaits Department of Public Works cost estimates and MassTrails grant funding before proceeding. The committee also initiated efforts on e-bike safety education for children ages 12 through 15 and will brief Falmouth Police on pending state micro-mobility device legislation.
