Board of Health approves Amphidrome septic variance with monthly lab monitoring requirement

Falmouth Board of Health backs Amphidrome Plus septic variance with mandatory lab monitoring. The board unanimously approved a variance for the unapproved nitrogen-reducing system at 85 Brick Kiln Road, a 40-unit shared septic system in a regulated nitrogen area, on condition that the developer conduct monthly certified laboratory testing and obtain written manufacturer certification of performance compliance. Member George Heufelder proposed monthly monitoring as standard policy for all unapproved systems to generate enforcement data.
Stop and Shop, 20 Teaticket Highway, won approval for plastic packaging variances on items #4 and #7 after demonstrating no suitable alternatives exist for food safety; the board required transition from black to other-colored plastics. The Board directed staff to rank approximately 50 worst-performing innovative/alternative systems by operator and pursue staged enforcement letters before homeowner outreach. Jed Goldstone was unanimously elected Chair.
