Commission approves demolition and continues sign design review

Falmouth Historical Commission approves demolition and dormer project. The commission unanimously approved demolition of a 100-year-old cottage at 27 Dartmouth Avenue, requesting that historic materials be salvaged and photographed before removal, and recommending the Cataumet Sawmill for material recycling. Applicants for a signage project at 68 Main Street were asked to return with a consolidated single-sign design using approved materials; vinyl lettering was rejected in favor of carved or painted methods, and PVC post sleeves were denied.
The commission also unanimously approved gable dormers for 345 West Falmouth Highway, accepting windows that deviate from district guidelines because they match the existing house. A separate fencing proposal at 371 Davisville Road was extended 30 days for material revisions, with the commission rejecting vinyl in favor of painted PVC or aluminum.
