Committee seeks $400,000 grant for Shining Sea Bikeway restoration

Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee · Meeting of January 7, 2026

Falmouth Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee advances $400,000 grant for full bikeway restoration. Chair Katherine Jansen and the committee advanced planning for a $400,000 MassTrails grant to remove invasive species and repave the Shining Sea Bikeway, with a required $100,000 town match and February 2 submission deadline. Funding decisions will be announced in August 2026, avoiding the common issue of reimbursement grants crossing multiple fiscal years.

The committee also finalized plans for minimum six 50th anniversary events throughout 2026, including an April celebration by the Friends of Falmouth Bikeways, scavenger hunts, a 50-mile challenge, and monthly walks and rides with Selectboard, town administration, and Department of Public Works leaders as honorary participants.
