FALMOUTH — Human Services Committee updates emergency storm shelter response to recent winter weather. Director Suzie Hauptmann reported approximately 36 unhoused residents were sheltered through the In From the Streets program, with coordination from the Duffy Health Center and Housing Assistance Corporation; the winter emergency program housed 53 people in Falmouth overall. Hauptmann noted that while the IFTS program successfully kept people off the streets, concerns exist about participants becoming complacent in motel settings and not utilizing case management services fully.
The committee heard from Emily Wagner, CEO of Cape Cod Young Professionals, on addressing out-migration of working-age adults; CCYP membership reached 15,000, with housing, childcare access, and career advancement identified as primary obstacles.
