Community Preservation hears housing shortage testimony at needs assessment hearing

Falmouth Community Preservation Committee held a public hearing on town housing and preservation needs. Falmouth Housing Trust Executive Director Laura Moynihan presented data showing the town has not met its 2024 Housing Production Plan goal of 80 housing units per year; adults aged 65 and older now represent 34 percent of the population, up from 19 percent. A household now requires over $200,000 annual income to purchase a home in Falmouth, and the Falmouth Housing Corporation maintains a wait list of 1,200 seniors.
The West Falmouth Village Association inquired about the rehabilitation process for the historic West Falmouth fire station.
