Falmouth Confirms Fifth West Nile-Positive Mosquito Sample of 2026
DATELINE — FALMOUTH FALMOUTH — A mosquito sample collected off Woods Hole Road tested positive for West Nile virus this week, the fifth positive detection in Falmouth this year and the first from that location, town officials announced Thursday. No human cases have been reported.

The town's News Flash system said the sample was collected Aug. 25 and confirmed positive Aug. 27. Health officials continue to monitor mosquito populations townwide as the season winds down, and residents are urged to remain alert to standing water and bite protection through early fall.
Separately, the Department of Public Works' sewer project continues to disrupt travel in parts of town. Maravista Avenue Extension remains closed between Route 28 and Nickerson Street, and Randolph Street is closed between Maravista Avenue and the southern mall entrance, with weekday closures running 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the town's most recent construction update.

The Falmouth Public Library opens a new exhibit Friday: the Upper Cape Camera Club's "Fun on Cape Cod" photo show, on display in the Main library. The same morning, the Falmouth Genealogical Society holds its regular meeting at 10:30 a.m., and a family scavenger hunt runs at 11 a.m.
