Falmouth Freshwater Ponds Committee approves expansion of local pond water testing initiative. The Falmouth Pond Coalition received a $4,500 grant from the Woods Hole Foundation, with matching funds, to retest 13 freshwater ponds previously tested in 2022 and test eight additional ponds, with testing planned for December 2026 and July 2027. Committee member Liese Siemann will survey boat launches this summer to assess the presence of invasive Asian clams that reproduce rapidly and outcompete native mussels, causing water quality degradation through mass die-offs.
The committee agreed to develop a comprehensive database of pond management strategies based on Siemann's work.
