Falmouth Posts No-Swimming Notice After Elevated Bacteria at Megansett
Elevated bacteria levels turned up in the latest water sample from Megansett, prompting the town to post "no swimming" notices, while road closures tied to the ongoing sewer project construction continue to detour drivers through the village. Meanwhile, the Falmouth Public Library kicked off a run of summer programming across its Main, East Falmouth and North Falmouth branches.

The town's most recent water sample from Megansett showed elevated bacteria levels, according to a public health notice posted to the town website July 15. Per standard procedure, "no swimming" signs went up within an hour of the county's notification, and the town said it is awaiting further test results before lifting the advisory.
Sewer project construction continues to disrupt travel in two parts of town. Brick Kiln Road remains closed between Sandwich Road and Oxbow Road, and Maravista Avenue Extension remains closed between Teaticket Highway and Mattapan Street, with both closures in effect 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, the town said in an update posted July 10.

The Falmouth Public Library is running "Road to Revolution: The Boston Tea Party," a living-history program, all day Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18. The library also continues its 2026 Falmouth Reads Together community read, "Land, Community & Conservation on Cape Cod: The History of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge," with related programming rolling out at the Main branch through the summer.
