FALMOUTH — Finance Committee hears $183.87M FY2027 budget proposal, marking 5.7 percent growth over prior year. Town Manager Mike Renshaw proposed $950,000 for affordable housing, two additional emergency dispatchers, and expanded senior center services, while reducing departmental requests by $2 million to avoid an operating override. Committee Chair Keith Schwegel raised concerns that from FY20 to FY2026 revenues rose 16 percent but the budget grew 38 percent, and noted the town is not collecting nearly $2 million in property taxes.
The Committee approved three general government budgets unanimously and voted 8 to 2 to authorize a $4,500 reserve transfer for fireworks shorebird monitoring, with members Addie Vaccaro and Peter Hargraves objecting that the volunteer Fireworks Committee should cover the cost.
