FALMOUTH — Freshwater ponds committee expands water testing programs and decides to separate freshwater pond management from coastal watershed planning. The Falmouth Pond Coalition will assume cyanobacteria testing for eight ponds and conduct comprehensive water chemistry sampling for 13 ponds in December 2026 and July 2027, with grant funding matched by FPC. During discussion of nitrogen-sensitive watershed planning with Wastewater Superintendent Amy Lowell, the committee declined to require innovative alternative septic systems on freshwater pond-abutting properties, agreeing instead that freshwater pond management should be separate and focus on phosphorus reduction.

The committee submitted a recommendation to the Select Board for local regulations requiring retailers to separately display phosphorus-containing fertilizers.
