Falmouth's Freshwater Ponds Advisory Committee approved prior minutes and advanced work on pond hydrogeology mapping, fertilizer retail compliance, and water quality monitoring. George Heufelder agreed to draft a consultant scope of work for delineating water contribution zones to ponds, with Kim Comart and Liese tasked with identifying external funding. Matt Long presented findings from a cyanobacteria monitoring study at Jenkins Pond documenting blooms reaching approximately 15 micrograms per liter after fall turnover events.
The committee voted to pursue a fall Town Meeting article adopting state fertilizer regulation as local ordinance, with Kim Comart and George Heufelder to prepare language for Town Counsel Maura O'Keefe's review. Bill Kerfoot and Kim Comart will report back on preliminary solutions for Mill Pond restoration, including clearing a collapsed granite conduit and improving water flow.
