Pond Committee Discusses Environmental Education Center at Mill Pond

Falmouth Pond Advisory Committee discussed environmental education center proposal at Mill Pond.

Freshwater Pond Advisory Committee · Meeting of July 23, 2026

Falmouth Pond Advisory Committee discussed environmental education center proposal at Mill Pond. Committee members George Heufelder and Kim Comart proposed building a dock and creating educational displays in partnership with the East Falmouth Public Library, opening in 2028, and East Falmouth Elementary School, with support from local businesses and community groups. The committee reviewed cyanobacteria monitoring at Coonamessett and Jenkins ponds, where real-time buoys are detecting low levels, and discussed whether Falmouth should require stricter septic system inspections given that about 85 percent of properties rely on septic systems.

The committee concluded broad septic regulations would be difficult without clear solutions for phosphorus removal.
