State Confirms West Nile Virus in Falmouth Mosquito Sample Near Sider's Pond

FALMOUTH — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed West Nile virus in a mosquito sample collected near Sider's Pond on July 21, the town announced July 24, marking the season's first local detection of the virus this summer.

TOWN HALL The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has detected West Nile virus in a mosquito sample collected in Falmouth on July 21 near Sider's Pond, the town said in a July 24 alert. State and town officials are urging residents to reduce exposure by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves at dusk and dawn, and eliminating standing water on their properties.

The town's Brick Kiln Road and Maravista Avenue Extension sewer-project detours continue, with both roads closed on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. as construction proceeds.

COMMUNITY & ARTS Falmouth Community Television hosted "It's a Summer Mix," a multi-artist show, on July 24 at its Dillingham Avenue studio, one of several free community art showcases the town has featured this summer.
