Water Quality Management Committee · Meeting of July 8, 2026

FALMOUTH — Water Quality Management Committee votes to authorize letters on nitrogen management and watershed protection. Edward Jalowiec was elected Chair and Steve Leighton re-elected Vice Chair, both by acclamation. The committee voted to authorize Alan Robinson to finalize a letter to the state Department of Environmental Protection requesting feedback on a proposed Responsible Management Entity plan for nitrogen-reducing septic systems, with an October 1st deadline.

Separately, the committee approved a letter to the Select Board expressing concerns about the Reserve at Quashnet Valley development in Mashpee, stating that groundwater from the project would discharge directly into the Quashnet River and impact Waquoit Bay. Wastewater Superintendent Amy Lowell presented draft watershed management plans for Rands Canal, Fiddler's Cove, Quissett Harbor, and West Falmouth to meet 2030 permit deadlines.
