FALMOUTH — Water Quality Management Committee hears proposal to integrate fiber optics with wastewater infrastructure. Alex Gamota of 3PO Networks presented a conceptual plan for the Shoestring Bay area in Barnstable involving approximately 190 homes, with 3PO financing 30 percent of capital costs and target sewer user fees of 45 to 55 dollars per month. Committee members raised questions about solids management, treatment requirements, and compatibility with existing municipal plans.
Jonathan Kaufman presented preliminary homeowner nitrogen mitigation cost estimates comparing sewering, innovative septic systems, and urine diversion over 20 years, with committee members requesting additional scenarios and debating whether the Town should provide comparable financial support for alternative systems.
