The Town of Falmouth's Beach Department announced Sept. 12 that regular season operations for the Beaches Division of the Community Services Department have ended, outlining changes to access and services through the off-season.

Beach parking lots remain unlocked and open to the public, but parking stickers will not be checked and daily fees will not be collected. No beaches will have parking attendants or lifeguards until May 2027.

Portable toilets will stay on site until November or December, though the number of units at each beach decreased in early October. The three bathhouses at Old Silver and Surf Drive beaches will be closed until 2027, except for events with already-approved permits. Beach concessions will remain open through the last weekend of September, at the discretion of individual vendors.

DPW staff will continue to collect trash and recycling. Reservations for water wheelchairs and beach walkers are suspended until 2027. The Ellen T. Mitchell Bathhouse, which serves as a temporary Town Hall administrative office, is closed until Memorial Day weekend 2027; residents with questions should email beach@falmouthma.gov instead of calling.

The department also noted that water temperatures remain above 70 degrees and warned that patrons may encounter jellyfish. For stings with mild symptoms, it recommends rinsing the area with saltwater, applying a heat pack, and using a topical treatment such as vinegar, meat tenderizer, Stingose, Sting-Aid or Sting Away, repeating as needed. Anyone with a more serious allergic reaction should seek professional medical attention for pain control and antihistamine treatment.

"This summer was one to remember, and we wish all residents/taxpayers/visitors of Falmouth health and safety in the off-season," the department said in the release.
