Falmouth Boards Review Draft Watershed Management Plan
Falmouth boards weighed a $361 million sewer expansion and new septic cost burdens.
Select Board · Meeting of October 16, 2026
Falmouth boards weighed a $361 million sewer expansion and new septic cost burdens. The Select Board, Board of Health, Water Quality Management Committee and Wastewater Infrastructure Financial Fairness Task Force held a joint workshop where Wastewater Superintendent Amy Law presented a draft plan sewering 4,471 additional parcels and requiring nitrogen-removing septic systems on 1,665 more. Financial Fairness Task Force Chair Dan Walsh estimated the sewer side, including a new outfall and treatment plant expansion, at $361 million, versus a hypothetical $860 million if the town relied entirely on septic upgrades.
Task Force Vice Chair John Kaufman put homeowner septic costs at $73,000 to $88,000 over 20 years versus $40,000 to $45,000 for sewer hookups. Board of Health Chair Jed Goldstone called Falmouth "a one technology town" on approved nitrogen-removing systems. No votes were taken on the plan; each sub-committee separately voted to adjourn.
