FALMOUTH -- The Select Board used its Sept. 28 meeting to formally proclaim Oct. 10 and 11, 2026, as Cape Cod Marathon Weekend in Falmouth, recognizing an event that includes the marathon, half marathon, 5K and marathon relay.
COMMUNITY -- Race director Jack Afarian accepted the proclamation on behalf of Cape Cod Marathon Weekend, thanking Town Manager Mike Renshaw, Assistant Town Manager Peter Johnson Staub and the Select Board for "giving us this meaningful proclamation." Afarian said organizers "vow to keep conducting the super race, the best marathon in Massachusetts and the best half marathon in Massachusetts." The board's proclamation credited the event's volunteers, public safety officials, school administrators and medical personnel, and said the weekend "generates significant economic and community benefits" for Falmouth by drawing visitors to local hotels, restaurants and shops.
Also during the Sept. 28 meeting, Select Board members used the recognitions portion of the agenda to highlight a bocce tournament hosted by Joe Q. and the Veterans Center, calling it "very successful" and noting organizers "were able to collect a lot of money for their good purposes." One member who attended called it "a great event, really fun."
No Falmouth High School athletic contests were reported in local scheduling sources for the Sept. 28 to Oct. 4 period, and Falmouth Recreation Department materials reviewed for the week contained general department information rather than new program announcements.
