Falmouth Confirms Fourth West Nile-Positive Mosquito Sample at Sider's Pond

FALMOUTH — Falmouth health officials confirmed a fourth West Nile virus-positive mosquito sample of 2026 collected near Sider's Pond, even as the town gears up for the September 1 State Primary and the library kicks off a new photography exhibit this weekend.

TOWN HALL

The town's News Flash system reported Thursday that a mosquito sample collected August 18 in the vicinity of Sider's Pond tested positive for West Nile virus, the fourth positive result of the year at that same location. No human cases have been detected in Falmouth. The town did not announce new spraying or closure measures beyond the standing advice to use repellent and reduce standing water around homes.

Falmouth voters can also find details on the September 1 State Primary, including instructions for the advance removal and depositing of mail-in ballots, a process the town's calendar flags for Monday, August 24, and Tuesday, August 25, ahead of election day.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Falmouth Public Library's Main branch opens a new photography exhibit Friday, August 21: the Upper Cape Camera Club's "Fun on Cape Cod," on view all day. The show arrives alongside a busy week of drop-in programming at all three library branches, including scavenger hunts, craft sessions and a support group meeting for new parents.
