Falmouth Moves Beach Permit Sales After Crash Shuts Surf Drive Bathhouse

A vehicle crashed into the Ellen T. Mitchell Bathhouse Beach Administration Building at 56 Surf Drive on the morning of Aug. 10, closing the building indefinitely and forcing the town to relocate beach parking permit sales to 59 Town Hall Square, where they now run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, according to the town's website.

TOWN HALL

The bathhouse closure remains in effect with no reopening date announced. Residents and visitors needing beach parking stickers must now go to Town Hall Square rather than the Surf Drive building.

In an update to the sewer main project that has closed sections of Brick Kiln Road and Maravista Avenue on weekdays, the town said new detour maps for upcoming road closures will be posted early in the week of Aug. 17. Both closures, Brick Kiln Road between Sandwich Road and Oxbow Road and Maravista Avenue between Nickerson Street and Randolph Street, continue to run 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

COMING UP

The Select Board meets Monday, Aug. 17, and the town has also posted a public hearing notice for the same day. Details on both were pending further posting as of Sunday.

The Falmouth Public Library has a run of drop-in programs at its branches this week. East Falmouth hosts Stay & Make craft drop-ins Wednesday, Aug. 19, followed by Bingo for Books and Library LEGO Time on Thursday, Aug. 20, and Why Knot Knit Nite that evening. North Falmouth holds its own Stay & Make session Tuesday, Aug. 18, and a Scavenger Hunt on Friday, Aug. 21, with Games on the Library Lawn returning Monday, Aug. 24.
