Falmouth Schools Approve Growing Pre-K in Place at East Falmouth

School Committee · Meeting of August 18, 2026

Falmouth School Committee learns insurer will cover nearly all costs of a storm-damaged elementary roof. District staffer Paul told the committee the town's exposure is limited to a $10,000 deductible after a 2026 winter storm's snow load damaged wooden trusses at North Falmouth Elementary School; inspectors found "zero issues with welding" after testing roughly 800 welds. Members also voted unanimously, as amended, to grow pre-kindergarten in place at East Falmouth Elementary rather than build a separate early learning center, authorizing up to two new classrooms, while a motion to shelve that idea for a year failed.

The district closed fiscal 2026 just $3 under its $61,424,654 budget. Members separately approved submitting a $590,000 Community Preservation Committee application to replace playgrounds at North Falmouth Elementary and Falmouth High School, and heard that the district fielded 87 public records requests and nine Open Meeting Law complaints this past year, costing more than $14,000 in legal fees.
