Conservation Commission · Meeting of October 14, 2026

Falmouth Conservation Commission ordered a Carriage Shop Road property stabilized after unpermitted clearing and a bocce court damaged a protected buffer zone. Staff member Alyssa told the board the owners, William Hoffman and Daniel Variga, had been asked repeatedly by email to install jute matting but had not done so, letting erosion carry debris into the waterway. Hoffman pushed back, saying "I don't know, I asked where to put the jute, I got no answer," while staff responded he had been asked "twice to jute mat the area." The board voted unanimously to require immediate jute matting, debris removal and a future Notice of Intent to restore the site.

Separately, commissioners took under advisement a bio-engineered dune proposal for 2 Moses Road after Vice Chairman Daniel Walsh questioned the new product's expected lifespan, and granted continuances on five other pending applications.
