Sewer Project Closes Brick Kiln Road Starting Thursday, Maravista Also Affected

Falmouth's ongoing sewer expansion enters a new construction phase this week, with two weekday road closures set to begin Thursday, while the Friends of the Falmouth Public Library opened their Annual Summer Book Sale and a local Marine veteran's documentary drew regional attention over the holiday weekend.

Brick Kiln Road remains open through Wednesday, July 8, as sewer crews work the corridor. Beginning Thursday, July 9, the road will close between Sandwich Road and Oxbow Road, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the same date, Maravista Avenue Extension will close between Teaticket Highway and Mattapan Street during identical hours. Motorists should plan alternate routes for the morning and afternoon commute.

Falmouth continues to operate under a Level 2 Significant Drought designation, in effect since mid-June. The town has encouraged residents to limit outdoor water use during the designation.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Friends of the Falmouth Public Library opened their Annual Summer Book Sale on Monday morning at the main library, 300 Main Street, with doors opening at 10 a.m. The sale is a seasonal tradition for Cape Cod readers and runs through the week.

The library also offered a full Monday program: Mah Jongg Beginner Open Play at 1 p.m., Lego Free Build at 2:30 p.m., and a World Cup Round of 16 Watch Party at 3:15 p.m.

The library's Falmouth Reads Together community series has recently centered on land, conservation, and the history of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge — connecting Cape Cod's present-day readers to the region's environmental and Indigenous heritage.

Two events later this month are worth noting now. The Woods Hole Film Festival marks its 35th anniversary July 27 at the Old Woods Hole Fire Station, 72 Water St., opening at 1 p.m. The Falmouth Historical Society hosts Movie Night at the Museum — Jane in July — on July 30 at 4 p.m. at 55 Palmer Ave.
